Corio Generation CEO and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) Chair Jonathan Cole spoke at the All Energy Show in Glasgow, and called for a more nuanced and reasonable discussion about global supply chains. "What we need is political leaders and industrial leaders who are willing to talk about this in a much more informed and balanced and responsible way and who don't use rhetoric and divisive language, because that's the way in which we solve this appropriately," he said. He called on government and industry leaders to "find a way, instead of going to unilateralism and protectionism, to stimulate positively our local supply chains and use multilateral processes to promote free and fair trade," adding that "if we want an orderly timely and affordable transition, we will need to mobilise suppliers from all parts of the world in the joint endeavour of decarbonising the world economy." We will need to mobilise the entire global supply chain to deliver the energy transition. This means avoiding protectionism and unilateralism while stimulating local supply chains, remarked our CEO Jonathan Cole at the All-Energy Exhibition and Conference in Glasgow, UK. Appealing for political and industrial leaders to avoid binary language such as 'pro- or anti net-zero' or 'pro- or anti-China', Jonathan, who is Chair of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), called for a balanced and responsible conversation on free trade and competition in wind energy development.   "It is in every country's national interest to embrace and deliver the energy transition," Jonathan said pointing to economic modelling that shows that almost every region of the world, except China, is set to face shortages of critical components. "If we extract China from the supply chain, what we're actually going to do is delay the energy transition and make it more expensive, and that's not in our national interest," he said. "What we need to do is find a way, instead of going to unilateralism and protectionism, to stimulate positively our local supply chains and use multilateral processes to promote free and fair trade," he added. If we want an orderly, timely and affordable transition, we will need to mobilise suppliers from all parts of the world in the joint endeavour of decarbonising the world economy. All-Energy is the UK’s largest low-carbon energy and supply chain renewables event, held between 15-16 May in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, UK.   #WindPower #OffshoreWind

[OUT NOW] 🇰🇷 GWEC is thrilled to announce the release of not one but two reports on #offshorewind development in South Korea! The reports are: 📈 (1) How offshore wind development supports coastal regeneration 🎣 (2) Exploring coexistence for offshore wind and fisheries in South Korea The first report reveals that garnering local consensus to build 14.3GW offshore wind projects in South Korea can benefit coastal cities’ economies. Some key findings: 🔺 The construction of offshore wind projects could generate 83 trillion won in project investments and create 770,000 job opportunities over the lifetime of the projects if we reach the South Korean government’s target of 14.3 GW of offshore and floating offshore wind by 2030 🔺 Jobs available are broad across the value chain and not limited to specialist roles 🔺 Manpower is needed for the long term - it takes about 2.1 million direct person-days to develop a 500MW offshore wind farm 🔺 Port investment and the creation of economic clusters can help with the sustainable regeneration of coastal cities Download the report on coastal regeneration: 🔗 https://ow.ly/We7650RJqsf ⚖️ The second report provides policymakers with a clear roadmap for building support for offshore wind with the local communities and fisheries, crucial in enabling the smooth rollout of offshore wind development in the country. One way is to prioritise the passing and implementation of special bills such as the Offshore Wind Power Promotion Act.
