Deluzio Rolls Out “Defend Democracy Agenda”

The former voting rights attorney and cybersecurity policy director launches his three-part policy agenda to defend American democracy against rising anti-democratic forces

WASHINGTON, D.C.
— Today, Iraq War veteran Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) rolled out his Defend Democracy Agenda, a three-part policy roadmap needed to defend America’s democracy from the threat of rising anti-democratic forces.

Congressman Deluzio’s first plan of his three-part legislative agenda focuses on earning public trust by strengthening congressional ethics, increasing transparency, and fighting back against the corrupting force of big money in politics. Democracy is a social contract between the people and their elected representatives, so Congressman Deluzio first takes on this issue with his Earn Public Trust Plan—a slate of policies and positions within his bigger agenda that will earn back this trust by fixing our broken campaign finance system and fighting corruption in the halls of Congress.

“I love this country, and I remain as committed to it today as I was when I entered the Naval Academy at age 17,” said Rep. Deluzio. “Through my voting rights, election security, and cybersecurity work at Pitt Cyber and the Brennan Center, I have seen firsthand many of the ongoing threats to this beautiful—and fragile—democracy of ours. Anti-democratic forces are on the rise both abroad and here at home. And in the aftermath of January 6th, Congress needs an all-hands-on-deck approach to defending our democracy. That’s why today I’m launching my Defend Democracy Agenda, a policy roadmap to strengthen American democracy. Since defending democracy begins and ends with public trust, my agenda starts with a critical slate of policies to try and earn that trust back. I hope all with a love of country will join me in supporting these critical accountability, transparency, and reform measures for both Congress and political campaigns.”

The PDF one pager of Congressman Deluzio’s Earn Public Trust Plan is here. The next two parts of Deluzio’s Defend Democracy Agenda are themed on voting rights and election security and will be released over the coming months.

Rep. Deluzio will give a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives tonight on this announcement between 7:00-8:30pm, after the conclusion of votes. The speech will stream live here, and a video will be available later in the evening on his YouTube page
