New York General Manager and Executive Vice President Rich Lisk has been busy reshaping the Riptide’s roster for both the present and future, and Saturday night announced the signing of lacrosse grandmother and Nassau County Legislator, Rose Walker, to a one-day honorary contract in advance of the matchup against the Albany FireWolves at Nassau Coliseum.

The decision was based on Walker’s longtime and unwavering commitment to the sport of lacrosse and youth sports in Nassau County. The mother of four and grandmother of six, a Hicksville resident, has spent three decades working the sideline of the Comets’ boys’ lacrosse games and works closely with the Police Athletic League to help promote various sports and youth programs.

The Riptide presented Walker with a personalized team jersey on the arena floor with No. 17 on the back. Walker represents District 17.

“It was a special night,” she said. “I was surprised to see 17 on the back of the jersey and I thought that was a nice touch by the Riptide. I felt like one of the players signing a contract and dropped the ceremonial face-off.

“I am grateful for this honor and will continue to push for Long Island to be the hotbed of youth lacrosse in our country!” she added.

Said Lisk: “I have been a part of the National Lacrosse League for 10 years and this is by far my most significant signing. Even though this is only a one-day contract, I expect Rose to break several Riptide scoring records. Our entire organization and community appreciates her ongoing dedication to lacrosse that has spanned several decades.”

Star forward Jeff Teat and the Riptide capped off the night with a 14-12 victory over Albany.

“Lacrosse and basketball are my two favorite sports,” Walker said. “Going to Riptide games is so much fun. The indoor game is very fast paced and the boards add a hockey element to it. The action never stops.”
