The Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS) is a network and advocacy group comprised of current and former collegiate and professional women athletes, their families and supporters. We are building a collective voice to promote and protect women’s sports. We believe women should thrive and succeed in sport without facing sex based discrimination. We believe women deserve respect and fair competition equal to that of male athletes. ICONS seeks to elevate and empower female athletes on and off the athletic field.
Why are we doing this?
We could not stay silent.
We love sports and we are grateful for the women who paved the way for our opportunities. The next generation of women and girls deserve the chance to be champions and to see an expanded and celebrated world of women’s sports. Recently we have seen the opportunities and protection for women and girls eroded. We need a voice to defend the respect and fair treatment of our next generation of female athletes. We will be that voice.
