Innovatieve installatie voor meerlagenteelt brengt glastuinbouw verticaal in beweging 🚀 🌱 Met een innovatieve verticale teeltinstallatie, ontworpen door Urban Crop Solutions, gaan we de uitdaging aan om de ruimte-efficiëntie binnen de land- en tuinbouw te verhogen. De 12 meter hoge gevelserre van Agrotopia wordt het unieke decor voor dit grensverleggende onderzoek waarbij de glastuinbouwsector verticaal in beweging komt. Het project biedt oplossingen voor efficiënt ruimtegebruik en positioneert Vlaanderen aan de top op vlak van innovatie en verduurzaming in agrovoeding. Het verticaal teeltsysteem zal bestaan uit drie torens van 10 meter met 18 bewegende tafels per toren. Door op verschillende lagen te telen, wordt het gebruik van de ruimte optimaal benut. Deze techniek is vooral gekend in een gesloten systeem, waarbij de omgevingsfactoren gecontroleerd kunnen worden, wat een hoge energiekost met zich meebrengt. Dit nieuwe teeltsysteem exploreert meerlagig ruimtegebruik in de serre en is ontworpen om maximaal te profiteren van natuurlijk zonlicht. Om indien nodig extra licht toe te voegen, zijn de torens uitgerust met dynamische belichting. De plantontwikkeling kan beïnvloed worden door het lichtspectrum van de ledverlichting bij te sturen. Zo worden de voordelen van een serre gecombineerd met de precisie van een gesloten systeem, wat resulteert in een innovatieve en duurzame teeltomgeving met maximale flexibiliteit. “We richten ons specifiek op de teelttechniek van gewassen die van essentieel belang zijn voor de glas- en stadstuinbouw, om zo onze telers en stakeholders in deze sectoren te ondersteunen. De opgedane kennis en inzichten zullen vertaald worden naar de huidige systemen en serres om de glastuinbouw van vandaag verder te innoveren en te verduurzamen. Aanvullend kunnen we, op basis van de resultaten, advies verstrekken voor de praktische implementatie van dergelijke systemen, zowel op lokaal als internationaal niveau", vertelt Maarten Ameye, afdelingshoofd Tuinbouw onder afdekking bij Inagro vzw. De bouw van de installatie start in het eerste kwartaal van 2024 om in gebruik te nemen eind 2024.
