Bio

As director of the Fanning Institute, Bishop guides the institute's strategic direction and programmatic operations to fulfill its mission to strengthen communities, organizations and individuals through leadership development. With an extensive background in leadership, community economic development, community visioning, strategic planning and group facilitation processes, he leads the institute’s efforts to design and deliver leadership programs that focus on community, nonprofit and youth audiences.

Prior to becoming director in 2012, Bishop served as coordinator of operations for UGA’s Archway Partnership, playing an instrumental role in Archway’s expansion from three to eight communities. His 17-year UGA career includes serving as faculty at the Fanning Institute and Carl Vinson Institute of Government and as principal investigator for UGA’s Initiative on Poverty and the Economy.

Before joining UGA, Bishop served as associate director of the Governor’s Rural Development Council and as regional resource coordinator for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
