Richard T. Clark

Assistant Professor

Overview

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government.

My research interests center on international organizations, international finance, public opinion of foreign economic policy, and climate politics. I am particularly interested in policymaking at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund and how these organizations bargain with member states.

My work is published in the American Journal of Political Science, International Organization, and the Journal of Politics, among other outlets. I have also written commentary for The Washington Post and Fortune. For a full CV, please see my website.

My research has been recognized with several awards, including the 2022 Best Dissertation award from the International Collaboration section at APSA; the 2022 Lawrence S. Finkelstein Prize for best paper presented on the topic of international organization at the 2021 ISA annual meeting; and the 2022 Best Paper in International Relations Award following the 2021 MPSA annual conference. I also received the 2021 Henry Owen Memorial Award from the Bretton Woods Committee for my research on cooperation among international financial institutions.

I am a faculty fellow in the Cornell Center for the Social Sciences, the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, and the Cornell Tech Policy Lab. I am also a non-resident affiliate of the Politics and Global Economy Lab at the Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University.

I hold a Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York, and a B.B.A. in Political Science and IT Management from the University of Notre Dame. I was formerly a research fellow in the Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance at Princeton University. Prior to beginning graduate studies, I worked in baseball analytics with the Cincinnati Reds.
