USDA Invests $665 Million in Grants to Provide Relief to Farm and Food Workers Impacted by COVID-19

In September 2021, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a $665 million Farm and Food Workers Relief (FFWR) program to reimburse farm and food workers with pandemic-related costs.  There is a competitive grant application for non-profit (501c), Tribal entities, and state agencies to apply to the FFWR program.  Technical Assistance for the application process is available. UFW Foundation will be providing technical assistance to organizations assisting farm workers.

When Can Qualified Workers Apply

Through this program, a one-time direct relief payment of $600 will be available to qualifying frontline farm, grocery, and meatpacking workers for expenses incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Direct relief payments will be distributed to individuals by organizations selected via a competitive process. During the summer of 2022, USDA plans to announce the organizations chosen to provide the direct relief payments to workers.

Please visit www.ams.usda.gov/services/grants/ffwr regularly for updates, including the list of organizations selected to distribute the direct relief payments. Potential beneficiaries may identify the organization(s) serving their region, ask them questions, and apply for a direct relief payment when application periods open by visiting  Farm and Food Workers Relief Grant Program Fiscal Year 2023 Description of Funded Projects (usda.gov). Please note that organization application periods may begin at different times.
