In the last few years, there has been a significant drop in new blood donors both nationwide and within our local communities. In response, ImpactLife is offering a special donor gift to those who give blood, platelets, or plasma with for their first time this summer. To help inspire people to try giving blood for the first time, all those who register to become a blood, platelet, or plasma donor at any of ImpactLife’s 22 donor center locations will receive a voucher to redeem for a $50 electronic gift card. All donation types are eligible for this limited-time promotion, provided it is that donor’s first time registering to give with ImpactLife and occurs at a donor center location from July 17 through September 10, 2023.

The promotion for new donors comes during a challenging period for our region’s blood supply. To help increase this week’s donations, all donors who come to give blood at any ImpactLife donor center or blood drive July 17 – 23 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a $500 e-gift card.

Recruitment and retention of new blood donors is a key area of importance within the blood industry, because as long-time donors become older, they may face issues with eligibility due to health concerns, medications, and travel. Data from 2022 indicates ImpactLife saw on average 100 fewer first-time donors every week than in previous years, continuing a trend that started with widespread cancellation of blood drives at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Every donation makes a difference,” says Tara Matheson, Director, Donor Recruitment. “But our new donors are especially important because they represent growth within our donor base and the future of our region’s blood supply. We urge everyone who hasn’t tried blood donation before to schedule an appointment and see how easy and rewarding it feels to help save lives!”
