Documenting Santa Barbara Families through Digitization

The Santa Barbara Community Archives Project (SBCAP) is a UCSB Library initiative to document the rich and diverse communities that make up Santa Barbara. Although originally created for personal use – to capture activities at home or work, family gatherings, or other small celebrations – home movies and family photographs document a particular time, place, and people. Significantly, items such as candid family photos, videos of social gatherings, local business commercials or promotional videos, and documentation of Santa Barbara County events and happenings all tell stories from the community’s perspective. This online exhibition is a showcase of such materials that have been submitted. The materials are organized by family.

SBCAP currently invites residents of the Eastside neighborhood and surrounding communities to submit their family photographs for FREE digitization by UCSB Library.

Library staff members will scan your photographs onsite. You keep the originals along with digital files and we’ll archive digital copies as part of UCSB Library’s Santa Barbara Community Archives collection, as well as share them on our online exhibition, Santa Barbara Community Archives Project.
