The 9to5 Colorado chapter was formed in 1996 beginning with a single organizer providing sexual harassment awareness training to low-income women in Denver. This small operation has grown into a thriving chapter spanning multiple issue areas with roughly a dozen staff and a powerful network of members.
TODAY
Our team has had recent success fighting for workers in Colorado, passing FAMLI, a paid family and medical leave insurance program for workers, in 2020 by ballot initiative.
In 2019 we also passed Equal Work for Equal Pay, changing the landscape for equal pay not only in Colorado but across the country. In 2023, we passed Ensure Equal Work for Equal Pay, an update to the previous law expanding its reach.
In 2022, our members and community told us in our first Climate Justice Survey the climate issues that were affecting our community the most. Since then we’ve passed the Mobile Home Park Water Quality Act and continue to find opportunities and policies to work toward.
As a leading organization of the Colorado Homes for All coalition, we’ve been paving the way towards housing justice in Colorado fighting for renters’ rights and mobile homeowner’s rights. In 2021, we passed a bill curbing excessive late fees for renters and are now fighting for protections against unjust evictions. In 2019, we helped pass the Mobile Home Park Act which enforced stronger regulations and protections for mobile homeowners, who make up a large portion of our membership. We previously helped Denver Meadows residents purchase their mobile home park and are currently organizing Foxridge Farm in Aurora.
