📰 Started career as an ink-stained wretch in Western Canada as a journalist, writer, editor, and photographer. 🕵️♀️ Was a “staffer” with Postmedia, Torstar (Metro) & Sun Media and lived to tell the tale. And has inked for publications across the Globe, especially the Great White North and taken photos for them too. Written for magazines (Macleans, Avenue, UCalgary, Swerve, University Affairs).
📣 Proud to be one of the only journalists in YYC who weathered both the Sun and Herald before the merge and the founding reporter on Metro when it came to town to disrupt our precarious newsrooms.
📸 ✈️ When not helping spearhead content strategy, I can be found with a camera and passport in hand, headed to an airport and looking for new adventures to document.

What do you do if your copy isn't captivating readers?
Stop selling, CTAing, ChatGPTing, SEOing, and start offering the ideal audience something helpful, insightful, inspiring, intriguing, informative or just plain entertaining. Think: read me, trust me, let’s start a conversation… instead of buy me, click through me, funnel that here… and if all else fails, think about adding a photo or vid of a puppy.

You need to create a press release. What are the best tools for the job?
You shouldn’t. The chances of you having an actual newsworthy story are slim to none 😂 Instead, consider whether your “story pitch” or “release” impacts anyone for better or worse? Will it change people’s lives, does it solve a global or community problem!? Is there new info/research/stats that could changemake or shift a society? No? You’re selling a product or launching a service? Then work on your content marketing (don’t pitch media). If you think you have a worthy feature about a person, place or thing/story on how a product or business came to be? Then niche pitch directly to reporters. None of the above? but you or your client is an expert/thought leader, then pitch talking head/pundit concepts to podcasts & editorial.

How do you explain Public Relations theories to clients?
Lol it’s not metaphysics. If you’re starting any conversation around strategy or tactics with “…well, in theory…” 😂. Um… How about - Best practice/(in practice) these tactics and strategies are proven to work and here’s why we would apply them to your particular audience, issue, story, outreach, campaign, etc. PR isn’t a theory, it’s a strategic planning process, a lot of creativity, mixed with hurry up and wait then gett’r done. I personally could do better by creating and showing case studies on actual work - not theory.
