ABOUT:
In the heart of Boyle Heights, a group of passionate individuals were united by the demolition of the iconic and historic Roosevelt High School, which opened in 1923. We shared a mission to preserve the vibrant cultural heritage that made the community what it is today. Our dedication to education and historic preservation sparked a movement to bring the history and significance of Boyle Heights to life.

Under the banner of Boyle Heights Community Partners, we set out to shed light on the historical places, people, and events that shaped our community's fabric. We believed that understanding the past would help us appreciate the present and shape a brighter future for future generations.

Boyle Heights Community Partners focused on landmarking historically significant places in Boyle Heights. Through tireless research and advocacy, the historical cultural monument application succeeded, and the City of Los Angeles Office of Historic Resources officially approved several vital locations. These landmarks testify to the diverse cultural tapestry that defined Boyle Heights throughout its history.

The power of storytelling was essential to ensure that the narratives of those who lived in Boyle Heights were heard and celebrated. To achieve this, we designed a student learning program that delved into the community's establishment and the contributions of well-known figures and unsung heroes. Their programs introduced students to the legends of Boyle Heights and fostered a sense of pride and ownership within the community. Students learned about the great men and women who shaped the second-oldest community in Los Angeles. Through their stories, the students discovered their ability to impact Boyle Heights positively.

Boyle Heights Community Partners established community events centered around historical figures and landmarks. We aimed to shed light on the lives and achievements of those who had been forgotten or overlooked. Our community celebrated our shared heritage through exhibitions, performances, and interactive experiences.

The impact of their work was evident in the vibrant cultural presence that had grown. People from all walks of life were drawn to our events, eager to learn, explore, and immerse themselves in the neighborhood's rich history. Boyle Heights Community Partner's successes inspired them.
