GENERATIONAL SMOKING PROHIBITION:

The UK is about to vote to PROHIBIT SMOKING and some vapes for future generations.

Rishi's new proposal aims to stop legal adults from buying cigarettes, Shisha tobacco, or even the less harmful Heat-Not-Burn products. That’s absurd. New Zealand's government announced that they will scrap a similar bill.

THE ABSURDITY:

Anyone born on or after the 1st of January 2009 would not be allowed to buy anything the government considers to be tobacco products in their LIFETIME. This is an arbitrary age restriction that the government plucked out of thin air. Imagine two friends on New Year's Eve 2050: One is a day older than the other and allowed to smoke a cigar, and the other is merely allowed to watch despite being 40 years old. Would you like to be treated like a child for the rest of your life?

VAPING FLAVOURS:

Over 90% of vapers use non-tobacco flavours. The government is considering stringent restrictions on various vape flavours, which would undo the decade-long success that have led to a drop in smoking rates in the UK. Flavours are not for children, they are for adults. 83% of vapers claim that flavoured vapes help them stop their smoking habits

DISPOSABLE VAPES:

Many smokers try first disposable vaping products before selecting a vape device they want in the long-term. Public Health England found that vaping 95% less harmful than smoking. By prohibiting disposables, Rishi will shut another door to smart tobacco harm reduction.

THESE MEASURES WERE NEVER REALLY ABOUT
PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN:

According to the NHS, only 1% of pupils were smokers in 2021, that's down from 13% in the mid-1990s!

The UK's liberal approach towards tobacco harm reduction has helped millions of smokers to quit and provided a leading international model. A change of policy would drive converted vapers back to cigarettes.

Prohibitions don't work, and rather drive consumers to the black market. Will the next Al Capone make a fortune thanks to generational smoking bans, or the next Pablo Escobar achieve success due to the demand for vapes? This plan is a boon for mobsters and a loss for consumers.

Other countries such as New Zealand and Malaysia have just reversed course and abandoned their plans for a generational prohibition. Rishi isolates the UK with his political legacy legislation at our own expense, which is the true reason for these measures.

This Prohibition is NOT FAIR:

In a democratic society, fairness in lawmaking should be the cornerstone of our regulations. Current legislation attempts to preemptively decide for future adults, creating a discriminatory practice based on birth year. This isn't just about today's laws—it's about upholding our rights tomorrow.

Could common pleasures like alcohol, sweets, or favorite foods be next on the chopping block? It's time to break the silence.

Stand with us against the overreach. Act now to uphold consumer choice.

SOME FACTS YOUR
MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT SHOULD LISTEN TO:

1) Prohibiting legal and regulated sources of tobacco and nicotine poses great danger on consumers : one advantage of government regulation is that there is a guarantee on the quality of legal products sold. An Impact Assessment produced by DEFRA acknowledges “unintended consequence in the form of a black market developing” with regards to the disposable vapes ban. When South Africa prohibited tobacco sales during COVID, 93% of smokers purchased tobacco on the black market. Prohibiting supply will not end demand, but rather directly hold policy makers accountable to exposing adults and children to dangerous products.

2) The government will hand £10 billion of its revenue from tobacco(our taxpayers money) to criminals: The government currently makes about £10 billion (yes billion) from duties levied on tobacco and even more once the vape tax is introduced, which it will lose when it prohibits tobacco. Imagine what it could do with all that amount of money: Fix potholes on our streets or maybe even lower our taxes for once.
3) The government is not doing enough to stop black markets: The government claims that it will tackle the rise of illicit markets, which it concedes will rise, by increasing funding to law enforcement. However, the market they will have created will be far bigger than the intended funds. 80% of current UK smokers bought cigarettes from the black market last year. Twice as many schoolchildren smoke cannabis than cigarettes, which is already illegal for the entire population. As such, the Tobacco and Vapes Bill will place a greater strain on our enforcement officers and not tackle the real crimes happening on our streets.

BONUS POINT if your MP is a Liberal Democrat or SNP: Ask them how they intend to legalise cannabis but have voted in favour of prohibiting cigarette papers.
