Thank you for your interest in the Resilience in Stressful Events (RISE) second victim program. We appreciate your consideration of appropriate candidates to serve as volunteer peer responders for this important program.

RISE Peer Responder Qualifications

  • Highly regarded by peers
  • Three years of experience in health care preferred
  • Attendance record in good standing
  • Employee in good standing, no disciplinary action/counseling in the past year
  • Availability and willingness to volunteer time and take call
  • Flexibility of schedule to be able to respond in a timely fashion when an event occurs
  • Commitment to confidentiality and a high degree of professionalism
  • Demonstrates healthy boundaries and personal resilience
  • Practices empathetic listening

Essential Personality characteristics

  1. Excellent listener
  2. Patience
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including body language/facial expressions
  4. Non-judgmental
  5. Ability to refrain from "problem-solving" (attempting "to fix" the problem)
  6. Commitment to follow program protocols

Becoming a RISE peer responder is strictly voluntary. Someone is not required to participate, this will not be a part of an annual evaluation and no one will not receive compensation for participation in the program.
