i need to address this comment. please don’t let this narrative confuse you. being told all you have to do is “understand the game” by the very same people who rigged it is BS advice. i played. i am playing. i am an entrepreneur. i am a “business owner” - i bought into this dumb hustle culture so hard i missed birthdays, weddings, births… my bank account did well. the stupid fantasy title on my linkedin changed every other year. the way i feel when i move through this world did not. mind you, the comments i get did not either. trying harder to be good enough is a lie. good enough for the promotion. good enough to get the same pay. good enough to be respected by “venture capitalist comment guy” … “trying harder” is the biggest joke the system played on us. remove yourself from these kinds of spaces. be around people who respect you. people who move with empathy. people who move with kindness. ✌🏽💕

That guy‘s comment just completely misses the point: Your hoodie addresses a structural inequality based on (sometimes unconscious) prejudices - meaning it‘s not about comparing one‘s pay with someone‘s from a different category but within one‘s own. It’s not about trying harder or doing something else. It’s about being treated fairly for the same job. It‘s just astonishing that some people still don‘t get this. We need more hoodies! Also: That guy clearly doesn‘t know you.

Its embarrassing to see that the people who are privileged are so often the ones who don’t realize that they are AND the ones who lecture the underprivileged or discriminated. I know that a big part of where I am and what I was able to achieve is purely based on the fact that I was born in Germany as a white woman. But I also know that I am part of a group that earns less just bc we are not men. Both can be reflected on and acted on. But denying it and lecturing from a privileged position is just so ignorant and also not a sign of intelligence. Your rage is absolutely justified.

I wonder if that guy would wear a hoodie saying „Pay me like a woman of color“. Probably not. That being said, structural inequality is real. There are not exactly limits to what you can achieve - but that’s beside the point because it’s BS, pure and simple, when you say people with a certain background don’t have a headstart in life.

Mansplaining at it‘s best 🏆 Tell me that you don‘t know anything about structural discrimination without telling me that you don’t know anything about structural discrimination 🤦🏻♀️
