Solubility, Miscibility and Compatibility Studies of Low GWP Non-Flammable Refrigerants and Lubricants for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Applications
Presenting Author: Henna Tangri, Honeywell, Minneapolis, MN, USA

Majority of currently used refrigeration and air conditioning systems utilize high GWP refrigerants such as R410A, R404A and R134a. Growing environmental concerns are driving stringent regulations to phase out high GWP refrigerants and move towards adoption of lower GWP refrigerants. This transition would require understanding of interactions between low GWP refrigerants and lubricating oil as well as the material compatibility with commonly used thermoplastics and elastomers. In this presentation, nonflammable low GWP refrigerants are introduced as the potential replacements for air-conditioning and medium temperature refrigeration applications & solubility, miscibility, and material compatibility with POE32 lubricant are experimentally investigated.
