Television Tower

In short

The Vilnius Television Tower is the tallest building in the country and is rightfully ranked among the tallest television towers in the world. At 326.5 metres, it’s 8th-tallest in Europe and 26th in the world. A rotating viewing platform is located on the Television Tower's circular section at 165 metres, on the 19th floor of the tower (55th floor compared to apartment buildings).

In clear weather, Vilnius and its surroundings can be seen through the windows of the Milky Way restaurant. The aforementioned restaurant is the only observation deck in Lithuania installed at this height. The annular restaurant floor rotates 360 degrees every 55 minutes. The Milky Way restaurant is dominated by European cuisine, including fresh salads, various snacks, steaks and desserts.

Brief History

The construction of the TV tower took 6 years and was finished on December 30, 1980. It is the tallest building in Lithuania to this day. The tower is a great place to commemorate special events or festivities – it is usually lit up in special colors adapted to the occasion.

The Television Tower also houses the Fight for Freedom Museum, which serves as a reminder of the events that took place there on the night of 13 January 1991, when Lithuanians won their independence. Small granite obelisks near the TV tower commemorate the 12 defenders who lost their lives that night.
