This article is more than 2 years old.

If the father figures in your life are anything like those in my life, then you know that come Sunday, the best way to celebrate Father’s Day is to celebrate by cracking open a cold one. And more specifically, a cold, hopalicious IPA, which is what three out of four dads in my family will be drinking this Sunday. Here are more than a dozen IPAs to gift the father or father figure in your life.

A Tapestry of Obscenity IPA, Bad Dad Brewing Co., $10.99/4-pack

If you get the Christmas Story movie reference, then this is the IPA for the bad dad in your life. If not, this father and sons brewing team also makes two other IPA’s: I’ll Turn This Car Around and Pull My Finger. Each can also comes with its own dad joke, too.

Indeed Brewing Company, IPA, $10.99/6-pack

The best place to enjoy this IPA is in its Milwaukee location’s new rooftop bar, but it’s enjoyable anywhere, really. "After running around the yard with my 1-year-old son, Flavorwave is a welcome refreshment, says Matt Plank, chain account manager for Indeed. “It feels at home no matter the activity. The beer is plenty hoppy, but also approachable enough to have a few throughout the day.” This brewery also makes a Flavorwave IPA lip balm, too, which will keep dad’s lips nice and soft.

Redhook Brewery, Big Ballard IPA, $9.99/6-pack

Seattle’s original craft brewery was born in a converted transmission shop in Ballard. This IPA is an homage to the brewery’s original stomping grounds. “If your dad is into classic craft beer, then he doesn’t need to look any further than Redhook, which was, and still is, Seattle’s original craft brewery,” says Joel Kosic, lead innovation brewer for Redhook. “Bold and assertive and loaded with hops, this IPA is as classic as they come - just like your old man – and might just transport your dad back to the good ole days.”

Devils Backbone Brewing Company, Juicy Magic IPA, $11.49/6-pack

Marketing copy for this fantastic IPA calls it “a flavor bomb that’s totally tubular.” “Juicy Magic IPA satisfies two of the main emotions I've experienced as a new dad: nostalgia for my late 80's/early 90's childhood and the desire to drink a beer after my kiddo's bedtime,” says Hayes Humphreys, chief operating officer for Devils Backbone.”The funky can brings me back to summertime beach vacations, plus the beer has ton of fruity hop flavor and the right ABV to make it the perfect beer to unwind with.”

Wicked Weed Brewing, Pernicious IPA, $10.99/4-pack

King Henry the Eighth once deemed hops “a most wicked and pernicious weed” so he outlawed hops in brewing. If your dad’s a history buff, then he’d probably enjoy Wicked Weed’s flagship IPA. “Father’s Day is about celebrating dad with the absolute best, and if your dad loves IPAs, Pernicious is exactly that,” says Walt Dickinson, co-founder Wicked Weed Brewing. “This medal winning beer balances tropical fruit and citrus notes with a dry crushable finish, and is the perfect reward for the never-ending job of being a dad, so get dad a perni!”

TALEA Secret Password, $22/4-pack, Marine Layer, $20/4-pack

This Brooklyn-based brewery makes a couple of interesting IPA’s that might make your dad quite happy. The first is Secret Password, a hazy double IPA that goes down strong and smooth with flavors reminiscent of a papaya smoothie with accents of Tangelo candy and Meyer lemons. The second is Marine Layer. This is mighty fine hazy West Coast IPA that is perfect for dads who like IPAs, but doesn’t care for overt happiness.

Wicked Weed Brewing, Hop Spectrum IPA Variety Pack, $21.99/12-pack

If you can’t choose just one style of IPA, then this variety pack might be perfect for your dad. It includes a West Coast classic, hazy, double and session IPA varieties. “Our first-ever IPA variety pack, Hop Spectrum, brings the brewery experience home,” Dickinson says.

Golden Road Brewing, Wolf Pack IPA Variety Pack, $25.99/12-pack

If your dad is a dog person and an IPA person, then perhaps the Wolf Pack IPA variety pack is the gift you should give him. “We created this IPA variety pack to give our fans a chance to experience a variety of our IPA offerings from our lower cal Hazy Pup, to our fruity, juicy Passion Wolf, to our refreshing Wolf Pup session,” says Dan Hamill, general manager. “That’s what makes it so great for Father’s Day celebrations, there’s something for every beer-loving dad to enjoy.”

Karbach Brewing Co., Hopadillo IPA, $9.99/6-pack

If your dad likes Texas (or maybe, armadillos), then you should check out Hopadillo IPA from Karbach Brewing Co.“For just over a decade, Karbach’s famous Hopadillo IPA has made its way to the top as Texas’ number-one-selling IPA,” says David Graham, director of marketing at Karbach. “This Father’s Day, give your Dad what he deserves: the best of the best. That’s why Karbach’s Hopadillo IPA is the perfect option for Dad to crack a cold one and enjoy his special day.”

Goose Island Brewing Co., Goose Island IPA, $7.79/6-pack

Goose Island IPA is perfect for Chicago dads, as well as dads who want to be Chicago dads. “Dads will love Goose Island IPA for its classic flavor,” says Keith Gabbett, senior innovation manager for Goose Island Brewing Co.. The medium body and crisp finish make it a stellar choice for even the pickiest beer drinkers, but the aromas of grapefruit, pine and citrus are what make this brew stand out! Whether you drink it with dad or give it to him as a gift, it’s sure to become a staple in his fridge!”

Elysian Brewing Company, Space Dust, $10.99/6-pack

The number one beer in Elysian’s portfolio, Space Dust balances bitter and sweet. “Most of the time, we’re creating memories without even realizing it – like when you’re enjoying an IPA with your dad in front of the TV during Sunday Night Football, gathered around a campfire, or while he teaches you how to master the art of grilling,” says Joe Bisacca, Elysian’s co-founder. "After 25 years of brewing craft beer here at Elysian, we’ve found that the most memorable moments are ones like these – no distractions, just good beer and even better company. And I love that a glimpse of the label or a sip of the beer can be reminiscent of these special times even years down the line.”

Elysian Brewing Company, Contact Haze, $12.79/6-pack

This IPA was brewed in response for the demand for Hazy IPAS, bringing a tangled chemistry of mild haze, low bitterness and big hop aroma.

Firestone Walker, Mind Haze IPA, $9.99/6-pack; $11.99/6-pack for double IPA version

It took a whole year of development for the brewers at Firestone Walker to come up with Mind Haze, a luscious hazy IPA. If you want a hazy that’s bigger, try the Mind Haze Double IPA. “Mind Haze was our very first hazy IPA, and it’s a perfect beer to enjoy this Father’s Day,” says Matt Brynildson, brewmaster. “It’s full of juicy, tropical fruit flavors, and as it sits at 6.2 percent ABV, it’s super sessional, making it a great addition to the family barbecue or get-together this Sunday.”
