The Color of Education

The 8:46 Series

April 27 | Noon – 1:30 p.m.

Trinisha Shaw and Jasmine Getrouw-Moore of Freedom Hill will present The Color of Education which will provide participants with a comprehensive, contextual frame for understanding the NC System of Education. The presenters will explore the present sociopolitical landscape, how we got here by taking participants on a virtual time machine back to the NC emancipation of enslavement; the fight for compulsory education and the ingenuity of Black teachers and learners; and the pushback (white resentment). They will also discuss who benefits from keeping groups of people educated enough for labor and explore how we are measuring up to the promise of Brown v. Board.
