Columbus State Wins PBC Commissioner’s Cup

The award is presented annually to the best overall athletic department based on regular-season standings and select championships

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -  Columbus State University captured the Peach Belt Conference Commissioner's Cup for the seventh time in program history on Tuesday night at the league's annual meeting. The award is presented annually to the best overall athletic department based on regular-season standings and select championships.

The PBC Commissioner's Cup is determined by calculating the number of points possible for each school, given the number of sports they participate in, divided by the number of points earned during the year. Points are determined by placement in the final regular-season standings in each PBC championship sport except cross country, golf and track & field, in which points are decided based on placement in their respective PBC Championship.

Columbus State earned 88 out of a possible 104 points available based on the number of sports sponsored, giving them a .846 rating.

The seven PBC Commissioner's Cups are the most in conference history. CSU also won the award in 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2010-11, 2015-16 and 2017-18.

"Winning the PBC Commissioner's Cup is a point of pride for all of our student-athletes, coaches and staff!" commented Director of Athletics Todd Reeser. "I am so very proud of our student-athletes for their outstanding achievements, on the field of competition as well as in the classroom."

Columbus State had an exceptional year, winning three PBC regular-season championships in women's soccer, baseball and women's tennis. The Cougar and Lady Cougar golf teams swept the PBC Championships in April, while the men's track & field team grabbed received first-place points after finishing as the highest PBC school at the track championship.

Softball, men's tennis and women's track & field all finished second in the standings.

The University of North Georgia (.704 rating) finished second, while Flagler College (.679) was third.
