Robert Moore

Robert Moore is entering his 14th season as head men's basketball coach at Columbus State University in 2023-24. He was named the sixth head coach in program history in April of 2010.

Moore spent six seasons (1994-2000) as an assistant under CSU’s all-time winningest coach, Herbert Greene.

In his 14 seasons in charge of the Cougars, Moore has taken Columbus State to the NCAA Tournament on five occasions, including three appearances since the 2014-15 season. Overall, the Cougars have a 200-157 record with Moore at the helm. He has coached 10 All-Peach Belt Conference players with 14 former Cougars signing professional deals since Moore's arrival. Moore coached Nelson Haskin ('22) to be a two-time PBC Defensive Player of the Year (2021, 2022).

Moore has guided Columbus State to three PBC Tournament championship game appearances as well as three 20-win seasons in his tenure. He was named the 2016 PBC Coach of the Year.

Moore returned Columbus State to national prominence in just his second season during the 2011-12 campaign. After a magical run to the PBC Tournament title game, CSU reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006.

The 2014-15 season was the beginning of one of the best three-year stretches in Columbus State history. In those seasons, Moore led the Cougars to a 63-26 record for a .708 winning percentage. CSU appeared in the NCAA Tournament in all three years achieving the feat for just the second time in program history.  The Cougars also captured the 2016 and 2017 PBC West Division titles.

Over the past three seasons, Columbus State has placed a player on the All-PBC team in each year while also appearing in the 2017 PBC Tournament championship game.

Moore arrived at CSU with 18 years of coaching experience, including 10 years in the head coaching role. Before Columbus State, Moore was the head boy's basketball coach at Brookstone School in Columbus for five years after a successful run at Tift County High School in Tifton, Ga. While at Tift County, Moore was named the Georgia Sportswriters Association 5A Boy’s Coach of the Year after capturing back-to-back region championships and a state title game appearance. Under Moore, Tift County posted a 47-12 record.

Moore served two seasons as the head coach at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College setting a school record for wins in a season in 2002 with 21. The previous record stood for 20 years.

In the six seasons as an assistant coach to Herbert Greene at Columbus State, Moore was a part of two NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearances, one PBC regular season championship, and three PBC Tournament titles. During that span, CSU reached the PBC Tournament title game on five occasions and made five NCAA postseason appearances.

Moore is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and is very active on campus with the African American Male Initiative program. He won the 2014 Columbus State Outstanding Staff Award and was one of seven individuals to be recognized by the Delta Iota Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity in May of 2019.

Moore has one daughter, Basharra and a son, Tre. He married the former Yvette Spencer in September of 2017.
