About Lifeline

We talk about mental health a lot on triple j; from spotting early signs of mental illness, to ways to take care of yourself. You’ve told us mental health is one of the biggest issues affecting young people today, and because it’s important to you, it’s important to us.

You might’ve noticed that whenever we chat about a topic that could bring up issues for our audience, Lifeline is one of the places we send you if you need to talk to someone. Now it’s our turn to help Lifeline.

Lifeline is the leading provider of crisis support and suicide prevention in Australia. Suicide is the biggest killer of young Australians: in 2019 it accounted for over one-third of all deaths among 15-24s in Australia.

Lifeline receives over a million calls, text messages and web chats every year (yep, that’s a call every 30 seconds), but currently cannot answer all the calls for help.

Lifeline’s trained volunteers are there to listen, provide connection, compassion and hope – ultimately saving Australian lives.

Last year triple j spoke to Trent Caldwell, who found himself calling Lifeline a couple of years ago. Read about what it was like for him here.

Together we can help more Australians in need: make a donation or buy a Hottest 100 t-shirt.
