Letters Nov. 16: The controversy behind introducing a PST in Alberta

Article content

NO LOVE FOR PST

The finance minister said he would consider a PST.  If he goes through with another tax grab I will never vote for the UCP government again. A sales tax was something the party stated that they would never consider. Premier Kenney needs to put a stop to this tax grab right away.  The NDP were kicked out because of their policies, but at least they did not bring in a sales tax, the only good thing they did.  On top of everything that everyone is going through right now, talk of a sales tax is not helping.

(Introducing a PST in Alberta has long been considered political suicide.)

COVID POLITICS

Where for art thou, Jason Kenney? Apparently you are isolating because you supposedly came in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID. However, I believe you are in hiding, using COVID as an excuse to avoid having to face answering questions because of the backlash from physicians, health care workers, and the general public as a result of your lame restrictions approach to the pandemic. Like keeping bars open until 10 p.m, a Band-Aid restriction when many patrons have come and gone during the day, perhaps taking COVID home with them. May as well allow the bars to stay open with their regular hours…what’s the difference? The handling of COVID in Alberta has been and still is politically driven. The lives of Albertans, especially those over 60, are irrelevant. General health care costs for the government going forward will be reduced as a result of the reduction of senior citizens during the pandemic. As harsh as that may sound, how about that Kenney should be banished to a deserted island with Trump.

(Lots or arguments, for and against, stricter COVID-19 restrictions.)

HMMM, HINKY

Does anyone else find it interesting that the vote counting machines used in all the states experiencing “glitches” (assigning Trump votes to Biden) is Canadian owned and just happens to be how the votes were counted in the last federal election? Perhaps there is a “journalist” not owned by the Liberals who could look into this. It is truly beginning to look like we can’t trust anyone anymore.

(Trust is one of the biggest casualties of 2020.)

IT’S A MEDICAL ISSUE

Re: Restaurants and bars face tighter restrictions as Alberta sees 860 new cases, 10 deaths. One of the first steps to conquering this virus is for our three levels of governments to take a couple steps back. In doing so, our medical experts can move in and take over operations to flatten the COVID curve in Canada. Basically, our politicians need to stop playing doctor and nurse. People’s lives are in the balance. There is too much at risk!

DONALD K. MUNROE

(If this was easy, we’d be happily looking at COVID in the rear-view mirror. Sadly, all options carry rewards and risks for individuals and society as a whole.)

LOCK IT DOWN!

Mr. Kenney, please lock down for two weeks before it’s too late. Don’t be like Trump. Follow the science.

DAN OLENICK

(He’s not at all like Donald Trump.)
