About this event

Please join us for a free tour of the Aspen Institute’s newest initiative, the Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies (“The Bayer Center”). Opening to the public on June 26, 2022, the Bayer Center is an exhibition space and center for the study of art, design, media, and culture.

Art tours last approximately 60 minutes and include a guided overview of our new galleries and our inaugural show, “Herbert Bayer: An Introduction.”

The monographic exhibition is organized by guest curator Bernard Jazzar and includes over 150 rarely-seen paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, all drawn from Bayer’s seven-decade career.

About the Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies

The Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies preserves the art, legacy, and expanded contexts of artist and designer Herbert Bayer (1900–1985), who studied and taught at the Bauhaus before emigrating from Germany to the United States in 1938.

After relocating to Colorado in 1946, Bayer helped lead the postwar revitalization of the city of Aspen, shaped the early artistic and programmatic vision of the Aspen Institute, and designed the historic Aspen Meadows campus between 1949 and 1975.

The Bayer Center honors Bayer’s interdisciplinary perspective by promoting public understanding of art, design, and media through exhibitions, public programming, community engagement, and educational initiatives.

The Bayer Center is an institutional member of the American Alliance of Museums.

The Bayer Center is free and open to the public.

***All attendees will be asked to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 48 hours of the event. Drawn from public institutions, private collections, and archives, these new shows will feature rarely-seen artworks, newly-digitized materials, and contemporary responses to Bayer and his rich artistic legacy.

A complete programming schedule is forthcoming.
