The history of Asian immigration in Canada can be traced back to more than 150 years ago when Chinese workers arrived on the west coast to build the Pacific Railway. In 2002, as a result of a motion proposed by the first Senator of Asian descent, Vivienne Poy, the Government of Canada signed an official declaration to designate May as Asian Heritage Month.

More than 30 years ago (December 6, 1989), 14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal were murdered – simply because they were women. The 2nd day of the 15th CEIU Convention started out with the showing of a video of CEIU’s accomplishments. 

To the singing of Solidarity Forever in the background, the video was played for the delegation.  After its showing, the National President’s words were, “Wow, what a fantastic video.  I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.”  He continued by thanking CEIU members for their participation and collaboration in helping CEIU achieve these accomplishments as well as thanking all the ones that had worked on the preparation of the video.

The CEIU National Executive, at their May 13th, 2020 meeting, voted to postpone the CEIU National Triennial Convention to 2021. The CEIU Convention will now be held from August 16th to 20th, 2021, at the Hilton Lac Leamy Hotel in Gatineau, Québec.
