2024 UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball – Jacksonville, FL
The 3rd Jacksonville UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball is a premier fundraising gala and major social event focusing on raising awareness of the need and benefits of a college education, the students UNCF serves and the contributions of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), including Jacksonville’s very own Edward Waters University—Florida’s first HBCU and first independent institution of higher education.
Hosted by a diverse group of corporate sponsors, local businesses and professional organizations, the Jacksonville UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball, is an evening of celebration attended by civic leaders, alumni, dignitaries, volunteers and friends of UNCF and EWU. This must-attend event is full of fun, fashion, glitz and glamour, and supports UNCF’s mission of investing in Better Futures® for the young men and women we serve and by helping them move to and through college.
Arthur Adams is Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, responsible for leading the company’s entire Merchandise business portfolio, which includes Agriculture and Food, Chemicals, Fertilizers, Paper and Forest, Metals, and Minerals markets. Adams also oversees CSX’s Business Development team.
Since joining CSX in 2007 with experience in the retail and healthcare sectors, Adams has helped strengthen the company’s market position and customer relationships. He has served in CSX’s Sales and Marketing organization in various positions of increasing responsibility. Prior to being named to his current role in January 2022, he was Senior Vice President of Sales, responsible for leading the company’s Merchandise sales teams as well as Customer Solutions and TRANSFLO. He also served previously as Head of Marketing Services, where he led the transformation of customer service operations and e-solutions enhancements.
Adams holds a master’s degree in intermodal transportation management from the University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Jacksonville University.
Cleve is a native of Jacksonville; having received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Florida, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Jacksonville University. Cleve is a proud graduate of William M. Raines Senior High School, a member of the Raines High School Outstanding Alumni Hall of Fame, and a recipient of the Raines High School 2010 Valiant Viking Award.
Cleve is recognized in the Jacksonville community for his tireless engagement in civic and philanthropic activities and for his sober approach to community leadership. He is an alumnus of both Leadership Jacksonville (’85) and Leadership Florida (’88), and an alum of the Northeast Florida Nonprofit Center’s Community Coaches Program.
Cleve has served on the board of directors for a number of local and statewide civic, educational, non-profit and for-profit organizations. He currently serves on the board of the Tournament Players Championship Advisory Board, the Leadership Jacksonville Board of Directors, the Eartha M.M. White Legacy Fund Advisory Board, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund Advisory Board, and the Baptist Health Systems and Baptist Health Foundation Board of Directors.
Cleve is a former Chair of the Board of Trustees for Florida A&M University, was former Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority and the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida, and is a former Commissioner of the 4th Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission.
Among Cleve’s other awards and recognitions, he is a recipient of the University of North Florida; Coggin School of Business, Outstanding Alumni Award, the OneJax Humanitarian of the Year Award, the Police Athletic League Award for Community Service, the First Coast Business Hall of Fame Award, the Jacksonville Business Journal Veterans of Influence award, and the Leadership Jacksonville Community Trustee Award.
Cleve is currently Chief Investment Officer for Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ), and Chief Investment and Advancement Relations Officer for Florida State College at Jacksonville Foundation. His professional career includes his tenure as Vice President and Corporate Banking Officer with the Barnett Bank of Jacksonville, a National Banking Officer with Wachovia Bank and Trust, and a former Senior Vice President and Manager of Commercial Lending with Community First Bank of Jacksonville. His corporate experience also includes his time as President and Chief Executive Officer of Essential Capital Finance, Inc., a Vice President at Captrust Financial Advisors, and his role as founder, majority partner, and Chief Operating Officer for The Players Group International, LLP.
Cleve’s vocational experiences also includes his senior management service in state and local governmentwhere he served as Executive Director of the Florida Black Business Investment Board under Florida Governor Bob Martinez, and as Chief of Economic Development for the City of Jacksonville under Mayor Ed Austin.
Cleve is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, having served with distinction on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, and in the U. S. Army National Guard and Reserve. He is a recipient of the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal for his service to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the National Command Authority during “Operation Nobel Anvil” in Kosovo.
Of Cleve’s many accomplishments, he counts as his most significant his marriage to his loving and supportive wife Pat, and their two adult children, Errika and Brian.
