Why this petition matters

Dead Rise is Maryland’s most Maryland beer made with Maryland’s most Maryland spice from Maryland’s most Maryland brewery and supports Maryland’s most Maryland crustacean. Now let’s make it official.

Each Spring, as buds return to tree limbs and birds can be heard happily chirping, thirsty Marylanders line the streets to their local liquor stores, beating their stock pots like drums, waiting for the seasonal release of Flying Dog Brewery’s Dead Rise OLD BAY Summer Ale, once named “the most Maryland beer ever!” by The Washington Post.

Dead Rise Summer Ale is a creation from Maryland’s largest brewery, Flying Dog, through a partnership with Baltimore-based spice giant McCormick & Co. The hugely popular beer is brewed with McCormick’s iconic OLD BAY Seasoning, which makes this beer super delicious and super rare – no other brewery brews a beer with that magical seafood sprinkle.

Dead Rise is THE summer beer for those with a deep devotion to their state, their seafood and their seasoning. The 5.7% ABV beer finishes dry and snappy, with hints of salt and lemon, perfect for pairing with any seafood you can pull out of the Chesapeake.

For the last 8 years, this is the beer Marylanders use to kick-off their summers. OLD BAY is in our blood and when Dead Rise hits the table, you know it’s time to crack open a crab and count yourself lucky to live near our beautiful Bay.

Born in the heart of crab country, Dead Rise pays homage to the history of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay and summer crab culture while also supporting the local industry. A portion of the proceeds from Dead Rise benefits Maryland’s crabbing industry through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ True Blue Program, an annual campaign aimed at raising awareness for the struggling industry. The True Blue Program highlights and rewards those restaurants who make it a point to serve local, Maryland harvested crab.

As if it wasn’t ‘Maryland’ enough already, this beer, brewed with the rugged spirit of the Chesapeake Bay watermen, is named after their traditional fishing boats, used year-round to gather your shellfish feasts.

Join us in asking Governor Larry Hogan’s office to elevate Dead Rise to an official state symbol so it can take its place alongside meaningful Maryland figures like the Oriole, the Maryland Blue Crab, the Black-Eyed Susan and Smith Island Cake as representation of our pride in our state, our people, our food and our culture.
