Bandits attack Katsina community, abduct village head, 12 others

Some bandits on Wednesday attacked Gamji village in the Sabwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, during which they abducted 13 persons, including the village head, Mallam Falalu Galadima.

The victims also included  a student of the Nigerian law School, Yenagoa campus, Bayelsa State, Mahdi Abdussalam, who was said to have graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Residents said Abdussalam was on vacation in the village.

A resident, who gave his name as Maishanu, also said his two brothers were among those abducted. He gave their names as Ahmad and Mubarak Wada.

It was learnt that the bandits stormed the village around 1am and started shooting.

A resident said, “Upon arrival,  the bandits started shooting indiscriminately and some of us had to take refuge in the nearby bush. They eventually abducted about 13 people.”

The spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, Gambo Isah,  said he would get back to our correspondents after checking with police authorities in the area.”

He had yet to call back as of press time. Other calls to his mobile phone were not answered, while a test message to the phone had yet to be replied to.
