The College of Charleston held a virtual forum on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, to discuss the rollout of its 10-year strategic plan, “Tradition and Transformation.”

“While there is much work to do in the implementation of our strategic plan, I want to acknowledge all the thought and effort that went into creating it,” President Andrew T. Hsu said at the forum. “This plan represents the work of a wide assortment of faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members. They worked together to rethink, reimagine and refine the College’s mission, vision and values. Out of their work and planning the College of Charleston will spend the next 10 years striving to become a national university – redefining the liberal arts through innovation.”

Hsu went on to outline the three pillars of the strategic plan and introduce the leaders of the strategic plan steering committees that will help drive the plan’s implementation and meet the goals established by each of the these pillars. The pillars and their respective committee leaders are:

  • Pillar 1: Student Experience and Success – Alicia Caudill, executive vice president for student affairs
  • Pillar 2: Academic Distinction – Suzanne Austin, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost
  • Pillar 3: Employee Experience and Success – John Loonan, executive vice president for business affairs and chief financial officer

“I want to thank our pillar leaders for their guidance and directions as we implement the strategic plan,” Hsu said. “I encourage everyone on campus to find ways in which you may lend your support to ‘Tradition and Transformation.’ The success of this plan is dependent on all of us working in concert together. No one person can make this plan a reality. It requires our shared commitment, our shared talents and our shared effort. This is an exciting moment for this great university as we all work together setting up the next 250 years of greatness for the College of Charleston.”
