Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC): The first online Congress of the Network of Deans and Deans of Latin American Universities will be held

The Network of Deans and Deans of Education of Latin American Universities (Redecanedu) will meet, for the first time in person, in Santiago, to participate in this international meeting, which will be broadcast via YouTube, on September 1 and 2 from the San Joaquín Campus of the Catholic University.

“It is a space for dialogue and meeting that will strengthen joint work, allow a rapprochement between the faculties and the Deans of Education of the region that belong to the Network. We want to promote commitment and collaboration between institutions” commented Lorena Medina, academic and former dean of the UC School of Education , who is manager and coordinator of this initiative supported by Siemens Stiftung .

In the context of the First Congress of Redecanedu, the first face-to-face meeting of the deans who participate in the Network will be held, which will take place both days in person and full-time.

The event will begin on September 1, in the Auditorium of the UC Faculty of Education, with welcome greetings from the rector of the Catholic University, Ignacio Sánchez, and the dean of the UC Faculty of Education, Alejandro Carrasco. Then, the executive director and spokesperson for the Board of Directors of Siemens Stiftung, Nina Smidt, will offer the talk: “Educational Innovation in the Latin American Context”. Following the words of the authorities, the president and executive director of the American Association of College for Teacher Education (AACTE), Lynn Gangone, will give a plenary talk about the importance of teacher training programs and networks.

The congress, which has the support of the Support Fund for the Organization of Scientific Meetings and Interdisciplinary Seminars 2022 of the UC Research Vice-Rectory, will present research works and innovative experiences around three themes: STEM Education, Diversity and Inclusion, and Education remote.

Then there are three research papers selected by a team of deans from the network, and then three innovative pedagogical experiences, with which we seek to show the innovative work of schools and education professionals”, explained the Redecanedu coordinator.

On September 2, the activities will take place at the UC Innovation Center on the San Joaquín Campus. Among the plenary talks of this day will be the one presented by the Executive Manager of the Siemens Argentina Foundation and member of the Board of the Group of Foundations and Companies (GDFE), Pablo Aldrovandi, entitled “Protagonists of the future: Young people devising technologies with purpose”. During the day, the assistant deans and deans will also have the facilities of the Laboratory for Innovation in Education (EDULAB) to make connections with their respective teams and generate networking.

On Saturday , September 3 , the meeting will conclude with a space to share and establish ties between the attending authorities, who will travel to Isla Negra, where they will be able to visit Pablo Neruda’s house and enjoy a camaraderie lunch.
