History & Architecture
The first building on the present site was a small Methodist chapel. At its inception, Woodland was described in the Library’s 1904 Annual Report as “a one-story colonial structure of brick, with stone trimmings, in a setting of green lawn, flowers, and shade trees.” The entrance opened into a wainscoted vestibule with a leaded glass partition.
In 1957, the building burned down and was rebuilt to open in 1961. A new building opened in 2023. The branch features an extensive Black World collection of both fiction and nonfiction materials.
Special Features
Through a partnership with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Woodland hosts the Kids Café and the Summer Lunch Program to provide free meals to youth.
