Trump campaign alleges 'illegal votes' in Nevada, provides no evidence

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The re-election campaign for President Donald Trump says it will file a lawsuit in federal court alleging Clark County is counting "illegal votes" in the general election, though officials did not provide any evidence to support their claims.

Nevada campaign co-chair Adam Laxalt, former Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell, and American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp spoke at a press conference outside the Clark County Elections Department facility in North Las Vegas.

The campaign officials alleged that they couldn't observe the counting process and that thousands of "illegal votes" were cast and being counted, including from people who were deceased or had moved out of state. Laxalt said they would ask for an injunction to "stop the counting of illegal votes."

They presented two people: a woman who said she learned her ballot was marked submitted when she went to vote and an election observer who claimed he faced discrimination for his conservative political leanings.

None of the people who spoke took any questions from reporters and ignored requests for evidence. Grenell said the campaign would "have more to say at the end of the day after we've filed."

Clark County Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria disputed the allegations during a press conference held later in the morning, saying he was unaware of any improper ballots being processed.

Gloria said the county has always been transparent and allowed observers.

Former Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell, who was also in attendance, claims the Trump Campaign has evidence of illegal ballots being counted, and he said Clark County won't address the issue.

“We are filing this federal lawsuit to protect legal voters. It is unacceptable in this country to have illegal votes counted and that is what’s happening in the state of Nevada,” Grenell said.

In response to the lawsuit, Gloria said they aren’t aware of any improper ballots being processed, and no evidence of fraud has been presented to them.

Joe Biden held a slim lead over Trump as of the most recent update in the Silver State entering Tuesday, but that has since widened with the latest updates from Nevada's election division.

Nevada's six electoral votes could prove pivotal in determining who reaches the 270-majority necessary to win the Electoral College.

The Nevada State Democratic Party decried the lawsuit threat, calling it an attack on the integrity of the state's voting system.

"The writing is on the wall for the Trump campaign," William McCurdy II, the chairman for the state Democrats, said in a statement. "As the voices of Nevadans are finally heard, Trump and the Nevada GOP have no other recourse than scare tactics and baseless suits."

Trump's campaign and the Nevada GOP have mounted several legal challenges in Nevada over the last few weeks in regards to the election, in addition to several other states with close results.

One suit over a state law sending mail-in ballots to all active voters in Nevada was rejected back in September. Currently, an appeal over mail ballot counting in Clark County is pending before the state Supreme Court.
