The Cause We Care Foundation Single Mothers Support Fund offers a holistic approach to providing unique wrap-around financial support to single mothers who are determined to make a better life and strengthen educational and economic opportunities by gaining new, or updating existing, skills and qualifications.

The Single Mothers Support Fund is accessible to single mothers who are referred by select program partners. Applications are submitted through a secure online portal and are assessed on a case-by-case basis. The level of funding provided is determined by the individual circumstances of each applicant and is designed to remove funding gaps and barriers by providing integrated financial support.

What The Fund Can Cover

  • Childcare services to assist in accessing training or educational courses
  • Clothing (including uniforms, appropriate footwear)
  • Computer equipment (including internet & Wi-Fi costs)
  • Educational / training supplies
  • Food and essential supplies
  • Some basic health + hygiene costs (haircuts, glasses)
  • Transportation
  • Tutoring
  • Other costs may be considered on a case by case basis
  • Please note that T4A’s are issued for Single Mothers Support Fund grants and these funds are subject to applicable income taxes. 

 

FAQ

The SMSF is available for single mothers who are restricted by financial barriers yet have the resilience, desire, and determination to complete educational or job training programs. Applicant eligibility requirements include the following: see our Application Guidelines on our website for full details:
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident 
• Be a single mother able to demonstrate financial adversity
• Have primary course funding already in place

• Be a resident of British Columbia, residing in the lower mainland

 

Applications are submitted online via the Cause We Care Foundation website. Applications must be filled out and submitted online (we do not accept hard copies). Have all information ready when the application process begins. 

We accept applications up to $10,000 for up to 12 months of support.  

This letter would be from an individual not related to the applicant. A professional reference is preferable.  Suggestions include a teacher, previous employer, associated front-line contact, counsellor – someone who can speak to the applicant’s character and demonstrated ability to overcome adversity

Applications will be reviewed, and a decision will be made within 30-60 days of the submission date.

A notification email will be sent directly to the mother to let them know the outcome of their application.   If there are urgent timing parameters, please note on the application and we will do our best to expedite the evaluation process.

Yes. Each successful applicant will be required to submit a 12 month progress report when requested by Cause We Care Foundation. 

Funds will be distributed to Mothers directly through Universities Canada, our 3rd party partner. 

The Single Mothers Support Fund (SMSF) provides financial assistance for single mothers wishing to gain new, or update existing skills and qualifications. Eligible costs include tutoring, transportation and food costs, clothing (including uniforms, footwear), educational and training supplies (books, study supplies), registration fees, computer equipment, and childcare costs. This is not an exclusive list, and expenses deemed necessary for furthering training and educational programs will be evaluated on an individual basis.
