The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) seeks expressions of interest for the bulk up and commercialisation of a new variety of quinoa.

U12BOL-B-E-W has been bred by DPIRD with the support of Agrifutures Australia. The Western Australian Agriculture Authority (the Authority) is the holder of the Plant Breeders Rights for U12BOL-B-E-W.

Closes: Completed expression of interest documents must be received by 5pm Western Australia Standard Time on Friday 18 September 2020.

Should you wish to submit a proposal to be granted a license to, please address in writing the selection criteria in the attached document.

Following the EoI process, DPIRD will negotiate a licence or licences with the successful party or parties.

Background

With the release of the locally-bred U12BOL-B-E-W along with an agronomic package for Australian conditions (developed through the PRJ-010057 project), it is expected that more farmers will be able to grow quinoa and adapt it to their crop rotations to meet local and international demand. Current world production of quinoa varies, but global demand is increasing due to inherent health benefits, and Australia has an opportunity to meet some of this demand.
