Dr. Jeanette Yih Harvie is a Research Associate at the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF). She joined the IVMF team in October 2020 as a consultant and transitioned to full-time staff in November 2021. Dr. Harvie is a skilled mix-methods researcher with extensive experience in survey methodology, data analytics, content analysis, focus groups research, and in-depth interviews. Her work with IVMF examines the impact of military lifestyle on military-connected families, women, and transitioning veterans.

Prior to joining IVMF, Dr. Harvie served as political science faculty at California State University, Los Angeles. Most of her research focused on how public policy and political institutions impact the citizenship development and political behavior of military veterans and underrepresented racial/ethnic groups. Dr. Harvie’s work is published in several edited volumes and peer-reviewed journals. She also serves as a reviewer for journals with focus on identity and gender politics.

Dr. Harvie holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. As a military spouse, she has lived in Washington, Virginia (twice), Colorado, California, Germany, and Texas. She currently resides near Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
