Everything is political these days.  From wearing a mask to the general election, employers face more challenges as they attempt to navigate politics in the workplace.  Participants will employ strategies to effectively address and identify the difference between protected and unprotected speech, consider social media implications in the workplace, discuss the politicizing of COVID-19, and learn best practices to effectively address politics in the workplace.  This interactive session will use hypotheticals to help participants utilize effective strategies to manage highly charged situations.

OSHA Can Help - Dale Glacken, Compliance Assistance Specialist, US Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Harrisburg Area Office
2:00pm - 3:00pm

How can OSHA help your organization?  During this session we will explore resources that OSHA has to help you be successful.  The OSHA webpage is very user friendly and we will briefly explore where to find what.  We also offer free consultation assistance (non-enforcement) to companies who want help with their safety and health programs.  Service is available to companies with less than 250 employees on a work site and with less than 500 employees in the company as a whole.  And the local Harrisburg Area Office staffs a daily Duty Officer who you can call into every regularly scheduled work day with your questions.  For local events and to learn what is current within the OSHA/safety field, you will want to meet the local South Central PA, Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS).  From here we will explore the OSHA inspection process and see what other employers have been cited for over the previous year.

Managing Your Remote Workforce While Avoiding Legal Pitfalls – Kelley Kaufman, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC
11:00am – 12:00pm

One of the many impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on employers was the need for many to transition to remote work arrangements overnight.  While many employees have returned to the physical workplace, employers of all shapes and sizes continue to have employees work remotely – and what began as temporary arrangements are becoming long-term.  There is no doubt that remote work programs can offer benefits for employers and employees alike; however, there are also a number of legal and practical pitfalls associated with structuring remote work arrangements and managing a remote workforce.  Join this webinar to talk through some of those pitfalls, and how your company can avoid them.

Rethinking Total Rewards Strategy Post-COVID: Are you getting a dollar’s worth of perceived value (or more) for every dollar spent on your rewards? - Lauren Hoggart, Lockton Companies
2:00-3:00

Everything is different now. Total rewards was previously a conversation about breaking down silos, creating efficiencies, and becoming an “employer of choice.” These concepts aren’t going away but for the next 18 months organizations (and their workforce) will be coming out of COVID in a new normal, with new expectations and shifting priorities. One common priority is going to be managing spend without sacrificing employee perceived value. How do you make smart financial decisions about your rewards without damaging your program’s ability to attract and retain talent? In this session, we’ll discuss ways your organization can close the gap between what you’re spending on your employees and what your employees really want, need and value.

Benefits Update – 2020 – the Year of Benefit Plan Rules Changes - Renee Lieux, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC
11:00am - 12:00pm

We started 2020 quietly with implementing the SECURE Act changes to retirement plans, then COVID-19 hit the United States.  As a result of the pandemic, Congress passed the CARES Act which allowed significant changes to both retirement plans and medical plans, and both the Departments of Treasury and Labor have issued a plethora of guidance some allowing and others requiring employers to make unprecedented changes in the administration of benefit plans.  In addition, the Departments have been busy issuing non-COVID-19 related guidance, proposed regulations, and final regulations.  This session will allow employers to “catch up” on the changes in the employee benefits world, from the extension of COBRA premium deadlines to the new lifetime income illustrations required to be provided to participants of retirement plans to the update required minimum distributions rules  to the ability of HRAs to reimburse for over the counter prescriptions and much, much more.

A Comprehensive Approach to Behavioral Health Intervention - Briana Birkenmeier, Lockton Companies
2:00pm - 3:00pm

Now more than ever an employee's mental health and well being is being tested.  With continued pressures at work and home, employers need to know how to navigate these mental health issues and understand the impact of behavioral health, the spectrum of need and programming available, the social determinants of health, and intervention opportunities and strategies.

Each session is approved for 1 SHRM PDC and pending for 1 HRCI recertification credit
