This is a Rapid-Hire Event to fill Onsite Wastewater Vacancies Across the State.

  • Under general supervision, perform assigned inspections, evaluations, and complaint investigations for the Environmental Affairs, Bureau of Environmental Health Services onsite wastewater program. 
  • In accordance with Regulation 61-56, Onsite Wastewater Systems (OSWW), conduct initial evaluations of proposed sites for the purpose of issuing OSWW permits. 
  • Layout and permit suitable sites according to state regulations and policies. Conducts second opinions on requested sites. 
  • Conduct inspections of installed onsite wastewater systems to ensure compliance with state regulations. 
  • Investigate complaints, determine validity, and make recommendation for corrective actions. 
  • Prepare reports/referrals of a professional and technical nature for enforcement activities and recommend action for violations. 
  • Provide consultation to the regulated community and general public on state laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Perform other duties as required.
 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences*, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience. 
* These fields include but are not limited to branches relating to Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, etc.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both an oral and written manner.
  • Work effectively in a team-oriented environment and encourage positive working relationships with coworkers, industry, and government officials; work independently in a field environment.
  • Ability to successfully complete prescribed technical coursework and pass any test relevant to the position within the probationary period or trial period.
  • Work in all reasonable weather conditions and access non-traditional work environments.
  • May require:
    • Daily travel throughout the state.
    • Occasional overnight travel.
    • Participation on the Environmental Response Team and is subject to on call or call back 24/7.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with onsite wastewater methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Training or experience in describing or classifying soils.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field; 
    • OR an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and three years of environmental health or related experience; 
    • OR high school diploma and five years of environmental health or related experience.
