In a 50-49 vote and with Vice President Kamala Harris presiding, lawmakers failed to invoke cloture on voting rights legislation--60 votes were needed. Majority Leader Schumer (D-NY) changed his “aye” vote to “nay” so that the measure could be brought up again later, and Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) was the only Republican to vote “aye” on the bill. Vice President Harris also presided and cast the tie-breaking vote to advance the judicial nomination of Jennifer Sung from the Judiciary Committee to the full Senate.
