NJCU Ranked Among Social Mobility Leaders
JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey City University (NJCU) continues to excel as a leading, top-performing school in multiple game-changing measurements. Notably, NJCU is currently ranked No. 22 in Social Mobility in Regional Universities North by U.S. News & World Report and No. 72 in the nation in the Social Mobility Index.
Studies demonstrate that economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college. Those institutions that are most successful in advancing social mobility enroll and graduate disadvantaged students awarded with federal aid, including Pell Grants.
NJCU is home of the Debt-Free Promise. As one of the most affordable public four-year colleges in the state, NJCU is committed to making college accessible. During the Fall 2019 semester, 58 percent of NJCU’s enrolled undergraduate students qualified for federal Pell Grant funding, with 3,593 who filed a FAFSA application awarded $17,823,373 in assistance.
NJCU’s recognition as one of the top public colleges improving students’ upward economic mobility demonstrates the great return on investment its graduates achieve. In fact, 10 years after graduation, students earn 22% more than the national average income. NJCU has garnered a Top 50 ranking for Top Public Schools in the region.
To make valid comparisons, U.S. News & World Report ranks institutions into 10 distinct categories and groups schools by four segments based on academic mission — national universities, national liberal arts colleges, regional universities and regional colleges and then subdivides based on geographical location: North, South, Midwest and West. Qualifying Regional Universities are those offering undergraduate and master’s degrees, but few doctoral programs. The North region includes Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington D.C.
