Vulnerable Freshman Senators Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Both up for Re-election in 2022, Back Infanticide

Washington, D.C. Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) reacted to the U.S Senate’s vote on legislation to ensure babies who survive failed abortions receive the medical attention and care afforded to other children who are born premature.

The legislation was offered as an amendment during the budget reconciliation process ‘vote-a-rama.’ The final vote count was 52-48 with a 60-vote threshold needed to pass. Every GOP senator voted in favor of the amendment, joined by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Bob Casey (D-PA). Notable senators in opposition include freshman Sens. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), both of whom are up for re-election in 2022.

“The American people now know where every single U.S. senator stands on protecting babies born alive after failed abortions. The legislation should have received 100 votes, but sadly, 48 Democratic senators voted against life-saving care for babies born alive – including freshman Senators Raphael Warnock and Mark Kelly, both of whom face re-election in 2022.

“We’re thankful to Senator Ben Sasse for offering this life-saving amendment and we thank Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Bob Casey for bucking the extremism of their party in order to provide life-saving care for these vulnerable infants.”

A strong majority (77%) of Americans believe babies born alive during failed abortions should be protected under the law.

A new report by Tessa Longbons, a research associate at Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI), shows that protections for babies who survive abortions are inconsistent across the United States, with fewer than half of states maintaining sufficient protections.

SBA List is a network of 900,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
