Frederick Ashton created this solo for Merle Park in 1985 for a gala in honour of Fanny Elssler. La Chatte metamorphosée en femme was one of the 19th century dancer’s most famous ballets with choreography by Jean Coralli and music by Alexander Montfort. This music could not be traced and the most appropriate choice for the solo was considered to be a piece from Offenbach’s operetta of the same name.
