It was a secluded part of the beach with rockpools all around to explore. I came across a rockpool that had a starfish, small crabs, and tiny, tiny, tiny fish skating along the water. As I played in the rockpool I decided to draw my own rockpool in the sand. The sand was smooth like drawing paper. I drew some rocks, two crabs, a starfish that was bigger than the crabs, and lots of tiny fish darting across the sand. Starfish need more space I thought as I was drawing because of their legs being so long. I jumped up with glee, ‘I drew my own rockpool!’

About the Book
Following the footsteps introduces Taylor and their adventures at the beach. We follow Taylor through what they encounter at the beach and how they deal with being on their own, feeling lost after they wander off from their parents. You'll note that I use the pronouns they, them not he,she. This is purposeful use of pronoun writing. The character Taylor has not been given a gender as I wanted to reflect non-binary persons.
About the Author
Tina Tedesco-Vella is based in the beautiful historic town of Hahndorf, nestled in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, Australia. From her earliest recollection at the age of 4 years old she loved reading, listening and imagining stories from family stories to bedtime stories. Storytelling was fun. She remembers creating stories from a forest painting in the lounge room of her family home. Through her vast work within the disability and community sectors, she discovered that everyone and every picture has a story to tell. So, she took her imagination for story and found that storytelling connects people. It connects one person to another. It connects communities. Her yearning to write a fiction book started like all first-time novelists with an idea, a seed for a story, and then turned into something else altogether. Writing short stories has been a favourite and here her first children’s book was created. Following the footsteps was inspired from family holidays she had experienced, to be inclusive of all people, and her love of storytelling.
