General Shale Becomes North American Market Leader

General Shale, the largest producer of brick and sustainable building solutions in North America recently acquired Meridian Brick, a Georgia-based company. 

What Will Happen to Meridian Brick? A new General Shale brand network will be established to integrate Meridian Brick products, manufacturing and distribution locations in the U.S. and Canada. The new network includes Canada Brick, Michigan Brick and Red River Brick.  They will join established  General Shale brands which include General Shale Brick, Columbus Brick and Watsontown Brick to continue providing sustainable solutions across North America.

Expanded Plant Network & Coverage

General Shale Brick is the legacy brand of General Shale established in 1928. Following today’s announcement, the brand will be available through nine production sites and 17 distribution centers across North America. The brand includes industry-renowned products including many popular colors and textures, which continue to be in high-demand for unique residential and commercial projects.

Under the Columbus Brick brand, General Shale manufactures a variety of face bricks and custom shapes in a broad range of colors, textures, and styles for residential and commercial applications. Established in 1890, the brand is the only U.S. brick manufacturing operation to offer genuine paper cut brick. Today, the Phenix City, Alabama operation will expand the Columbus Brick brand to offer even more solutions to our customers.

Founded in 1908, the Watsontown Brick brand has expanded its line to include residential, commercial, and architectural products. The brand is comprised of three manufacturing sites with unique capabilities to produce extruded and molded clay brick offerings. Canada Brick has been a premier clay brick manufacturer in Canada since 1954. The relaunch of the name following the company's purchase by General Shale is a celebration of the company's rich history, and a commitment to continue providing robust and quality products in both the residential and architectural space. Michigan Brick is the established Midwest brand of the General Shale network located in Corunna, MI. The name has a history that spans decades and is still regarded as a quality producer of residential and commercial clay brick. The manufacturing facility includes one of the few extruded thin brick operations in the industry, which offers customers of Michigan Brick a unique design offering compatible with multiple application styles.
