Piney Knob Trails...a beautiful trip around the 700+ acre Murphy Watershed property.

In 2010, we started working to make this beautiful watershed property on Fain Mountain accessible to the general public. To date, 13.5 miles of trails are open and the entry road has been paved and is accessible to all vehicles.

Piney Knob Gobbler Trail - Murphy, NC

The Gobbler

The Gobbler is the 5.1-mile main loop trail that skirts the edge of the watershed property. It has approximately 414 feet of elevation change.

Piney Knob Grape Smuggler Trail - Murphy, NC

The Grape Smuggler

A 2.1-mile inner loop trail.

The Flaming Azalea.

1.6-mile inner loop trail.

Piney Knob Rhodo Coaster Trail - Murphy, NC

Rhodo-Coaster

Rhodo-coaster is the 3.75-mile main loop trail that explores the inner parts of the watershed property. Cruise through beautiful native rhododendron thickets as you wind across several river crossings.

Piney Knob Fain Espresso Trail - Murphy, NC

Fain Espresso

.75-mile out and back trail off of the top of the Gobbler Trail.

The Entrance Trail

.2-mile trail that leads from the parking area to the trail heads.
