  • Standard Excision
  • Mohs Micrographic Surgery (see below)

Mohs Micrographic Surgery

What is Mohs Micrographic Surgery?

  • Mohs micrographic surgery is a specialized, precise technique for treating skin cancers so that patients can get the highest cure rate, while minimizing the size of the surgical defect and resulting scar.
  • Mohs surgery involves removing precise layers of the skin and evaluating the 100% of the surgical margin with a microscope while the patient waits.Repeated layers are taken if necessary until the cancer is fully removed.
  • Usually, reconstruction is performed immediately following cancer removal.

Benefits of Mohs Surgery:

  • Success – Mohs Surgery provides the highest cure rate of any treatments for skin cancer—up to 99% and substantially decreases the chance of skin cancer recurrence.
  • Preservation – Mohs Surgery minimizes the removal of normal skin tissue allowing for potentially smaller scars.
  • Safety – Mohs Surgery is performed under local anesthesia. This permits faster patient recovery and a lower risk of complications, especially for older patients.
  • Integration – The Mohs surgeon is specially trained as a cancer surgeon, pathologist and reconstructive surgeon.

Why Choose a Fellowship Trained Mohs Surgeon?
Dr. Thompson has achieved the highest degree of Mohs surgery qualification by completing an American College of Mohs Surgery approved fellowship. For you, this means peace of mind, knowing that you will receive superior quality and competency, as well as an optimal outcome.
