New Ad: Let America Vote Calls on Senate GOP to Act Now, Protect the Right to Vote

The ad will run on national cable, including CNN, MSNBC and Comedy Central

Let America Vote (LAV) today launched a new ad as part of a $400,000 national cable ad buy calling on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to protect Americans’ access to the ballot in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak. The House has passed $3.6 billion for states to provide a vote-by-mail option and safe in-person voting. McConnell and Senate Republicans have so far refused to act. Earlier this month ECU launched a separate series of digital ads, backed by a $125,000 buy.

Titled “Change,” the ad is part of LAV’s and End Citizens United’s (ECU) Secure, Accessible, Fair Elections (SAFE) Democracy Project, which the groups launched to ensure that all American voters can cast their votes without putting their health at risk. So far, SAFE has made over 75,000 contacts to members of Congress and state elected officials in addition to recently launching a new texting program contacting more than 173,000 activists.

“In the past few months, Americans’ lives have been upended and everything has changed,” said Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “The last thing voters should have to worry about is choosing between their health and safe access to the ballot. But Mitch McConnell is refusing to allow the Senate to pass legislation to expand vote-by-mail and safe in-person voting options. Why is Mitch so afraid of our voices being heard? Congress must act now to protect Americans’ right to vote. The integrity of our democracy depends on it.”

The national cable ad will run on CNN, MSNBC and Comedy Central. The ad targets voters nationwide and is designed to raise awareness and encourage people to take action to pressure the Senate to act.

LAV/ECU’s SAFE Democracy Project is a 50-state grassroots effort calling on Congress to provide more election preparedness funding, implement a universal no-excuse vote-by-mail option for all 2020 elections, and add additional safeguards to guarantee safe and sanitary in-person voting. It also calls on top election officials in states that do not already provide no excuse absentee vote-by-mail options to provide such options.

Everything has changed.

Our work. How we eat. Breathe. Even, stand.

But we can’t stand for this.

To protect our health and our right to vote with vote-by-mail, and safe options for voting in-person.

We must act now.

But Mitch McConnell refuses to let the Senate vote.

Join us. Tell Mitch – protect our health and our vote.

Why’s Mitch so afraid of our voices being heard?

LAV and ECU recently merged and have been active in the effort to address the voting rights crisis borne out of the coronavirus pandemic. Both groups have been working with members of Congress to sound the alarm on Capitol Hill, and with a coalition of good government and civil and human rights groups to identify and address issues around voting.

Unlike dark money groups, LAV is entirely transparent and every penny is disclosed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Unlike Super PACs, LAV adheres to contribution limits and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average contribution of $14.
