New Polling Shows Strong Support in AZ and NH for Filibuster Reform To Pass the For the People Act

Jul 19, 2021

Voters signal bipartisan support for legislation to end dark money, enact anti-corruption measures, stop partisan gerrymandering and protect the freedom to vote

New Arizona and New Hampshire polling released today by Public Policy Polling on behalf of End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund shows strong bipartisan support for the For the People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1) and reforming the filibuster to get the legislation passed.

Key survey findings demonstrate bipartisan support in three areas: protecting the freedom to vote, passing the For the People Act, and reforming the filibuster. Participants were provided with a description of the For the People Act and asked about whether they supported reforming the filibuster to pass the critical legislation.

To determine the level of support for filibuster reform, voters were asked which of the following statements came closer to their point of view: “We need to reform Senate rules in order to get dark money out of politics and protect the freedom to vote. We cannot let politics and process stand in the way of protecting our democracy,” or “We need to stick with tradition and preserve the rules of the Senate even if it means failing to pass important legislation to protect our democracy.” In each of the two states, a majority of voters said it was more important to reform Senate rules to pass the For the People Act and protect the freedom to vote and crackdown on dark money.

These results come at a critical point as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has emphasized his dedication to advancing comprehensive voting rights and anti-corruption legislation following Senate Republicans’ procedural tactic to use the filibuster to block the For the People Act. As restrictive voting laws continue to be passed across the country, polling has consistently demonstrated that commonsense reforms to protect voters and our electoral system are supported by an overwhelming majority of Americans across party lines.
