Full Democractic Caucus Shows Commitment to Protecting the Right to Vote and Limiting the Influence of Money in Politics; Only Senate Procedure Stands in the Way

End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU//LAV) Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after the Senate’s vote on the motion to proceed on the For the People Act:

“Today, Senate Democrats united to protect Americans’ fundamental right to vote and limit the influence of big money in politics, while Republicans blocked even debating the bill. This vote kicks off the urgent summer-long fight to pass the bill in the Senate.

“Democrats are unified to move forward on the For the People Act because they believe protecting the freedom to vote and ensuring everyone is heard is fundamental to the success of our nation. They know it’s how we ensure our government is responsive to the people and they know it’s how we can make progress on the major issues facing families across the country.

“Meanwhile, Republicans have dug in to protect the corrupt system that benefits them and their dark money and corporate special interest allies.

“We cannot let Senate procedure stand in the way of passing this bill that protects the voice and vote of every American. Senator Schumer has set an August deadline to pass the bill and every senator is going to face a choice about whether they truly believe in protecting the right to vote. We will continue to fight throughout the summer to ensure they choose our democracy and the freedom to vote.”
