New Polling Shows Suburban Women Voters in Georgia Overwhelmingly Support Reproductive Freedom

Strong majority support for reproductive freedom in Georgia shows how out-of-touch Trump and Senators Loeffler and Perdue are with suburban women voters
Washington, DC — Today, as President Trump visits Georgia, NARAL Pro-Choice America released new polling by Change Research showing that suburban women voters in Georgia strongly support reproductive freedom, oppose Georgia’s 2019 abortion ban, and do not trust politicians to make decisions about women’s health. Just as Trump and Senate Republicans gear up try to ram through the confirmation of a new Supreme Court justice who will work to gut Roe v. Wade and decimate reproductive freedom, the results underscore how out-of-touch Trump and Republican senators and candidates — including Senators Kelly Loeffler, David Perdue, and Republican Senate candidate Doug Collins — are with suburban women voters in Georgia on the issue of abortion.
The new poll reveals that a vast majority (78%) of suburban women oppose making abortion illegal and turning back the clock to the days before Roe v. Wade.
“Donald Trump, Senator Loeffler, Senator Perdue, and all the anti-choice candidates falling in line with their extreme agenda could not be farther out-of-touch with Georgians, and it’s clear that they are making a grave miscalculation in their attempts to win over suburban women who clearly favor reproductive freedom and reject abortion bans by a wide margin,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia Director Laura Simmons. “Every day between now and November, NARAL will work to ensure that the draconian agenda of these anti-choice, out-of-touch politicians — who represent only a vocal minority — is crystal clear to key voters in Georgia.”
Other highlights from the poll:

Two-thirds of suburban women in Georgia (65%) oppose the 2019 Georgia law that banned abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, a time before many women even know they are pregnant. This opposition includes 79% of Independents, 78% of non Evangelical white women, 65% of white women under 35, and 90% of Black voters.

82% oppose the 2019 abortion ban once they learn more about its impacts. This includes 73% who are strongly against it. Just 2% say they would vote for someone who supports the ban. Majorities of white women under 35 (58%) and white college graduates (52%) would not consider voting for someone who supports this ban.

Suburban women do not trust Georgia politicians to make the right decisions when it comes to women’s health. Overall, 61% say they do not trust them at all– including 75% of Independents, 76% of Black voters, and 72% of white voters under 35.
The new polling also comes out as Donald Trump and Republicans running for office are using scare tactics and racist dog whistles in an attempt to win over suburban women voters.
In 2020, NARAL is running its largest-ever political program to secure a Senate majority in support of reproductive freedom, investing $34.7 million to hold anti-choice, anti-freedom Senators like Loeffler and Perdue accountable for pushing an extreme ideological agenda that is out of touch with the 77% of Americans who support the legal right to abortion.
Both U.S. Senators from Georgia — Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue — are up for election in November. NARAL Pro-Choice America has endorsed reproductive freedom advocates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to unseat Sens. Loeffler and Perdue, who have both proven that they are determined to end the right to abortion, no matter the costs. Additionally, NARAL has endorsed 41 candidates running for state legislative seats in Georgia after Republicans narrowly forced through a extreme ban on abortion in the state legislature in 2019.

As Senator, Perdue has supported extreme bills to ban abortion, earning him a 0% score from NARAL in the Congressional Record on Choice. Not only did Perdue vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court — tipping the balance of the Court to anti-choice control — he continues to serve as a rubber-stamp for Donald Trump’s extreme anti-choice agenda by helping him to stack the federal judiciary with dozens of judges hostile to Roe v. Wade and determined to gut or overturn the constitutional right to abortion.

Just hours after Justice Ginsburg’s passing, Sen. Loeffler tweeted in support of Trump nominating a new justice prior to the election, and doubled down on her hostility to Roe v. Wade, saying she looks “forward to supporting a strict constructionist who will protect the right to life & safeguard our conservative values.”

While Loeffler was appointed to office after Kavanaugh’s confirmation, her short tenure in the Senate has been no less extreme. The very first bill Sen. Loeffler chose to introduce as lead sponsor was an extreme measure designed to shame individuals for exercising their fundamental freedom and push abortion care out of reach for as many people as possible.

Recently, the extremist anti-choice organization Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List released their annual scorecard, in which Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue both earned ‘A’ ratings for their dangerous positions attacking reproductive freedom. Loeffler and Perdue’s ‘A’ ratings from SBA List underscore just how wildly out of touch they are with the majority of Georgians who support reproductive freedom and believe politicians have no place interfering in personal decisions about pregnancy.
